Security was further boosted Friday at Rome's Jewish ghetto and other such sensitive sites in the Italian capital following Israel's attack on Iranian nuclear targets.

Even though security measures have long since been raised to the highest levels, "a focus has been opened on various fronts - information, investigation and surveillance - that the relevant offices are implementing also to adopt any measures in case it becomes necessary to further increase the level of protection of the targets", sources from the Rome police headquarters said.

Italy's Jewish community said it supported the days-long operation to degrade or destroy Tehran's nuclear programme.

"We are following the developments of the Israeli night attack on the Iranian nuclear threat and the impact of the Iranian retaliation on Israel and its population," the Union of Italian Jewish Communities said.

"Our communities are also on maximum alert in coordination with the police forces to whom we reiterate our deep appreciation.
