China's ministry of foreign affairs on Monday criticised a call by Anthropic's chief for the United States to curb China's artificial intelligence capabilities, as he pushed for a global slowdown in the development of AI.

Dario Amodei says rapidly advancing AI systems are outpacing safeguards and is calling for new measures to “slow the pace” toward more powerful systems.

"Not building the technology deprives humanity of benefits or simply places AI in the hands of authoritarian powers, while building it too fast is reckless," Amodei says.
