Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Sunday expressed significant concerns over China’s role in the global AI landscape, while describing the country as the “toughest dilemma” in his proposal to decelerate AI progress.
Why Amodei Is Worried About China
Amodei, speaking with CBS News’ “Sunday Morning,” highlighted the challenges of implementing a global AI speed limit, citing military advantages as a key factor. Despite uncertainties about feasibility, he emphasized the importance of attempting such measures.
"The more long-term thing would be working together to put a speed limit on the rate of AI progress. I think that’s going to be very difficult because the incentives to pull ahead and the military advantage that you get from that are so large. And honestly, I don’t know if it’s possible, but we should try," he said.
