"We’re always going to protect our sovereignty, always," Premier Doug Ford said Saturday after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to rename the Great Lake.

Trump threatened the renaming earlier this week amid a deepening trade war with Canada.

Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes located on the border between Canada and the United States.

The change, he said, would take effect immediately.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday, which he says officially renames the lake.
