OTTAWA — U.S. President Donald Trump signed an order Thursday to change the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America,” making good on a threat after the collapse of trade talks and in retaliation for Canada launching a new round of counter-tariffs against American products.
The move came on a day when Canada walked back its proposed 25 per cent levies on American seafood and fish and swapped in 50 per cent tariffs on some copper and construction materials, even as some analysts said Canada’s plan does not match the impact of the Trump tariffs.
