The city state's prime minister announced on Sunday that every Singaporean newborn would automatically receive almost S$70,000 (£40,000) from birth to 17 years old.

A new package will provide every Singaporean child with the same level of support regardless of birth order, unlike the existing Baby Bonus Scheme.

The government will fully bear the bill for increasing childcare leave for Singaporean parents, instead of co-sharing it with employers.
