.The United States Department of Justice has announced a $400 million settlement with TikTok, ByteDance and affiliated entities, resolving litigation over alleged violations of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and its implementing regulations, known as COPPA. Under the terms of the settlement, TikTok will pay $300million immediately, while an additional $100million will be paid upon the entry of an order vacating a prior consent decree entered against TikTok’s predecessor, Musical.ly.

The settlement ends a lawsuit filed by the Biden administration.
