Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the District Hospital in Gopeshwar to meet workers injured in the Chamoli tunnel accident and reviewed their treatment. Of the 22 workers trapped after debris and water entered an under-construction tunnel of the THDC’s Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project, 19 have been rescued, while efforts continue to evacuate the remaining three. Dhami also inspected the accident site and ordered a magisterial inquiry into the cause of the incident, promising action against those found responsible for negligence. The government has announced ₹4 lakh compensation for the next of kin of each deceased worker.
