Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday visited the site of the THDC tunnel accident at Mayapur near Pipalkoti in Chamoli district and reviewed the ongoing rescue and relief operations. He also inspected the rescue and relief work from inside the tunnel and sought updates from the teams working on the ground.The tunnel is part of the THDC Vishnugad-Pipalkoti hydropower project and has a total length of around 3 km. Officials said debris and water entered a section of approximately 1.5 km following ground subsidence, creating difficult conditions for the rescue teams.Dhami directed officials to accord the highest priority to the rescue operation and make effective use of all available resources and technical expertise.Three people still trappedDistrict Magistrate Gaurav Kumar briefed the chief minister about the incident and the rescue operations carried out so far. He said 19 of the 22 people trapped inside the tunnel had been brought out, while efforts to locate the remaining three were continuing.Seven people have so far been reported dead in the incident. The rescued injured workers have been shifted to the district hospital in Gopeshwar, where medical teams are providing treatment and continuously monitoring their condition.Dhami directed officials to ensure that the treatment of the injured and assistance to the families of those affected remain a priority alongside the rescue operation.Coordination among rescue agencies stressedThe chief minister directed officials to maintain close coordination among all agencies involved in the operation. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and police are engaged in the rescue efforts.Dhami said every possible effort should be made to safely evacuate the three people still trapped inside the tunnel. He also instructed officials to ensure that rescue teams have access to the resources and technical support required to conduct the operation effectively.He stressed that the operation should be carried out with utmost seriousness and caution, considering the conditions inside the tunnel.Focus on medical care and familiesAlongside the rescue operation, Dhami directed the administration to ensure that there are no gaps in medical care for the rescued workers. He also asked officials to provide necessary assistance to the families of those affected by the incident.The chief minister instructed officials to maintain continuous communication with the rescue teams and ensure that arrangements at the accident site remain adequate throughout the operation.The administration said rescue and relief efforts were continuing at the site as teams worked to locate the remaining three people.
