Millions of spectators witnessed a total solar eclipse Wednesday in parts of the Arctic, Greenland, Spain and Portugal. In other areas, skywatchers not in the path of totality — when the moon completely blocks the sun's light — got a partial eclipse.

On August 12, nearly one billion people could see a partial solar eclipse, with 15 million in its path of totality.
