Germany's interior minister says a drone carrying explosives discovered near a Ukrainian aircraft at Leipzig airport represents a new level of hybrid threat and is under investigation.

It has emerged that a drone equipped with explosives and a detonator was discovered near a Ukrainian aircraft at Leipzig/Halle airport in Germany on the night of 4-5 August.

A drone carrying a package with a detonator was found near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport, prompting a security lockdown.

The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) had been found on the tarmac.
