Shocked Pan Am research team discovers lost plane wreckage 74 years later

A research team has discovered the wreckage of a Pan American Airways plane 2,000ft (610m) below sea level, 74 years after it disappeared. The Clipper Endeavour was heading to New York when it went down on 11 April 1952 following a multiple-engine failure after takeoff. Everyone on board survived the initial crash into the sea, but 52 passengers then drowned. Twelve passengers and all five crew members survived. The disaster led to sweeping reforms in the aviation industry, including the introduction of pre-flight safety briefings and demonstrations of emergency procedures. Footage shown in Discovery Channel’s Expedition Unknown shows a research team reacting in shock as they looked at images of the wreckage, which was found off the coast of Puerto Rico.
