The Douglas DC-4 aircraft, which took off from Puerto Rico on 11 April 1952, was found in June almost 2,000 feet deep in the Atlantic Ocean by the Discovery Channel's series Expedition Unknown, alongside the Air/Sea Heritage Foundation and other groups.The flight, bound for New York City, experienced engine failure shortly after take-off, leading to a water landing nine minutes later. Although everyone initially survived the impact, 52 of the 64 passengers on board subsequently drowned, while 12 passengers and all five crew members were rescued.
