Europe’s top human rights body has questioned the integrity of the World Cup. The Council of Europe urges FIFA to help build a stronger framework for the 2030 edition being played mostly in Spain and Portugal.

"The FIFA World Cup 2026 has raised question after question," Council of Europe secretary general Alain Berset has said.

Alain Berset said Fifa’s deal with a prediction market company and Folarin Balogun’s reprieve meant urgent work was needed on ‘the integrity of the sport’
