Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police has been arrested in connection with the theft of R14.9 million in precious stones, as the Independent Police Investigative Directorate intensifies its investigation into law enforcement's role in the case.

The court has granted R5,000 bail to two suspects implicated in the theft of precious stones, valued at R14,9 million.
