The United States has carried out a fresh round of strikes on Iran after Iranian forces hit a civilian cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. The latest escalation comes despite a fragile ceasefire and raises fresh concerns over the security of one of the world's most critical shipping lanes.

The announcement followed Iran and Oman’s foreign ministers meeting on Saturday to discuss the strait that lies between them.

Iran said it closed the Strait of Hormuz after a vessel traveled on an unapproved route and was struck, warning against retaliation over the incident.
