Nine people are still missing across the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, which experienced record rainfall, with some areas receiving over 90cm, leading to breached reservoirs and widespread inundation. More than 8,000 rescue workers, 5,700 boats, and drones have been deployed in the extensive rescue operation, which has led to the evacuation of approximately 130,000 people across the affected region. While floodwaters are receding, further rain is anticipated, and recovery efforts include clearing mud and debris, disinfecting towns, restoring electricity to nearly 60,000 homes, and capturing nearly 900 snakes that escaped a collapsed breeding farm. China has recently faced other natural disasters, including a fatal landslide in Gansu and deadly thunderstorms in Hubei, and is now preparing for Super Typhoon Bavi, a powerful storm intensified by warm ocean temperatures, expected to hit Fujian province.
