An 11-year-old Canadian boy has died from rabies after waking up with a bat on his nose and mouth.

After the death of a child in Ontario, Canada, doctors are urging people to seek medical attention after direct contact with a bat, even if there are no signs of a bite or scratch.

The 11-year-old boy was visiting a cottage in northern Ontario in 2024 and awoke with a bat on his face.

There have only been 28 rabies cases reported in humans in Canada since 1924
