Open Letter: Urgent Intervention On The Frightening Plight Of Nigerian Pensioners: Delayed Gratuity, Inflation, And Stagnant Pensions

Your Excellencies, I, write with respect and urgency on behalf of pensioners in Nigeria, the men and women who served this nation for thirty- five (35) years or more, and who have now face a silent crisis in retirement. The 1999 Constitution, Section 173(3), guarantees that “pension rights… shall be a right” and “shall not be withheld.” Yet the reality for thousands of pensioners contradicts this guarantee. I pray your indulgence to highlight four critical problems which are urgently demanding immediate legislative and executive action:
