A Nigerian retiree, Elder Sebastian Julius Ebhoriaze Ebhohon, has called on President Bola Tinubu, state governors and the National Assembly to urgently address what he described as the worsening plight of pensioners across the country, citing years of unpaid gratuities, stagnant pensions and rising inflation.
In an open letter addressed to the President, governors, the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ebhohon said thousands of retirees who devoted over three decades of service to the country were now facing severe economic hardship and neglect.
The pension advocate lamented that many pensioners wait between 12 and 15 years after retirement before receiving their gratuities, a situation he said has left many elderly Nigerians trapped in poverty and dependence.
