The Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria has called on President Bola Tinubu to graciously assent to the Police Exit Bill, which has been passed by the National Assembly, for them to exit the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

According to them, “the welfare of police officers, both serving and retired, is directly tied to their morale, operational courage, intelligence gathering efficiency and willingness to make the ultimate supreme sacrifice in defence of the nation.”

They noted that the National Assembly had passed the bill since December 4, 2025, and subsequently transmitted it to the President on March 16, 2026.

The forum, under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), at a press conference held at the Ondo NUJ Secretariat, Alagbaka Akure on Tuesday said if President Tinubu signed the bill into Law, he would be making one of the most impactful security decisions because he would be restoring institutional parity and strengthening inter-agency morale and cooperation.

Raphael Irowainu (rtd), National Coordinator of the forum, who spoke on behalf of over 40,000 retired police officers in Nigeria, however, said “if President Tinubu failed to give assent to our Bill as a result of deliberate misinformation predicated on the fallacious economy implications that the Exit of the Police from the obnoxious and inhumane Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) will have on the nation’s economy propagated by DG Pencom and her collaborators with the intent to fraudulently and un-patriotically retain the police in the Contributory Pension Scheme in order to continue to sustain her lavish and ostentatious lifestyle and that of her management teams, the NPF pension company and it’s management teams, other pension funds administrators with their management teams past and present Inspector Generals of Police and other top government officials that are benefitting from the Contributory Pension Scheme, we will have no alternative than to reactivate the stood down national peaceful protest code name “No Retreat, No Surrender” on or before 22 June, 2026.
