A retired senior police officer, Owolabi Odesanmi, has recounted the traumatic circumstances that led to the amputation of his leg while serving in the Nigeria Police Force, lamenting that after sacrificing his health in the line of duty, he was abandoned to suffer under an unfair pension system.

Odesanmi, who retired as a Superintendent of Police (SP), narrated his ordeal during a press conference organised by the Retired Police Officers Forum under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The retired officer disclosed that he lost his leg while actively serving at Tincan Island in Lagos during an operation to apprehend a suspected robber.

According to him, the incident occurred at the Apapa Wharf area when he and three other police officers were pursuing a fleeing criminal.
