FIVE decades have passed since that fateful, yet horrifically tragic day on June 16,1976.The children of 1976, particularly the " black" children of Soweto rose as one, stood firm and with stones and running feet reclaimed their agency without waiting for someone to come rescue them.

Police action against protesting students on 16 June 1976 shocked the world and marked a turning point in the fight against apartheid.

Half a century after an uprising that helped bring down apartheid in South Africa, little remains on the streets of Soweto to mark the blood spilled there.
