India has lodged a strong diplomatic protest with the United States after a US CENTCOM operation targeted the oil tanker M/T Settebello off the coast of Oman. The vessel carried 24 Indian crew members, of whom 21 were rescued while three reportedly lost their lives. India also called for diplomacy, protection of commercial shipping, and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions in West Asia. The government has said more than 18,000 Indian seafarers are currently working across the Gulf region.
