After his term as chair, Powell retained his seat on the Fed’s governing board until 2028, an unusual move that prevented the administration from appointing another member. The award was jointly presented to residents of Minnesota’s Twin Cities, recognised for their courageous acts during a federal immigration crackdown that led to arrests and tragic deaths.
