Toshifumi Suzuki, the mastermind who transformed 7-Eleven from bankruptcy into an 85,000-store global empire, has passed away at 93 due to heart failure.

Former chairman of Seven & i Holdings Toshifumi Suzuki, credited for the global success of 7-Eleven convenience stores, has died at the age of 93, the company said Monday.

Toshifumi Suzuki partnered with the US-based operator of 7-Eleven to launch Seven-Eleven Japan in 1973, opening the first store in Tokyo the following year
