Devang S Ram Mohan has packed a couple of pairs of swimming shorts and flown 14 hours to be in Hawaii today. The London-based mathematician and senior machine learning engineer is visiting the islands to meet 8,000 similar specialists for a week of intellectual exchange, contact-building and cocktails.

The International Conference on Machine Learning is one of the world’s leading events in the field and includes keynote speakers such as John Schulman, a co-founder of OpenAI — which built ChatGPT — and Shakir Mohamed, head of research at Google DeepMind. Hundreds of papers will be presented showcasing attendees’ work and sharing insights, tools and techniques.
