Househunters will be able to see how much energy a potential new home will use, how well insulated it is and what its emissions are under proposals being brought forward by Scottish ministers.
A consultation on the reform of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), which are required for house sales and rentals, has just been opened. Industry bodies welcomed the plans, but said that funding must be made available to help update housing stock where required.
Among the EPC amendments being mooted are the provision of more information, including details about the fabric of the building, its energy efficiency and whether the heating will meet future standards. There may also be a reduction in how long the documents are valid for, from ten years to five,
