U.S. tech leaders are being pushed toward industry-led guardrails for advanced AI as Dan Ives, Partner and Senior Managing Director, Tech Analyst at Yorkville Ives, argued Saturday that a public call to ease up on model capability gains is a meaningful move toward self-policing, even as China keeps pressing ahead.
The warning comes as calls for an industry-wide slowdown gained traction after Dario Amodei published a long essay Saturday saying the window to reduce catastrophic AI risk could be measured in months.
Amodei’s Message an Important Step Toward More Self-Regulation, Says Ives
In a post on X, Ives wrote that Amodei’s message lands as an important step toward stronger self-regulation by U.S. tech, but he also flagged that China is unlikely to hit the brakes.
Ives added that Washington and the tech sector are likely to stay focused on how fast models are improving, with "sovereign AI" a central theme.
