TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia is ready to play a greater role in advancing global food security as the country strengthens its domestic food production capacity. He made the statement during the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India."For years, Indonesia was a major importer of grains, rice, and corn. Now, we have become an exporter and will be able to increase our support for the rest of the world," he said, according to an official statement released Sunday.Prabowo said the shift demonstrated how countries can overcome limitations by developing and strengthening their domestic capabilities. He added that BRICS members could achieve similar gains by combining their respective strengths and maximizing them through cooperation.Prabowo said interconnected global challenges should not be viewed solely as obstacles, but also as opportunities to deepen cooperation."Together, we can turn these interconnected challenges into opportunities for greater investment, stronger industries, and more jobs for our people. Growth that reaches millions of our citizens will make our nations more resilient," the president said.He said national resilience depends in part on how widely economic growth is felt by the public. For that reason, he emphasized the importance of inclusive development and innovation in strengthening collective capacity.Within BRICS, Prabowo said member countries have complementary resources, production capabilities, and economic strengths that could be combined to create greater added value."BRICS already constitutes a supply chain. We are responsible to connect and optimize these existing strengths as a source of greater value," he said.Prabowo proposed joint industrialization as a concrete way to make better use of the resources and production capacities of BRICS members."Therefore, allow me to propose something concrete. Let us pursue joint industrialization and optimize the resources and capacities we share," he said.
