TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto said developing countries should have a greater role in shaping the global order, with BRICS serving as a platform to strengthen the voice of the Global South.Prabowo made the statement during the open session of the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India, on Sunday, September 13, 2026.“A future where resilience protects development, innovation expands opportunities, cooperation delivers tangible impact, and sustainability means prosperity is realized both for the present and for future generations,” Prabowo said.According to the Presidential Secretariat's Media and Information Bureau, Prabowo said strengthening the voice of the Global South was important to give developing countries a greater role in determining the direction of global development.He said the international community was approaching 2030, the target year for achieving the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Prabowo said countries had made various commitments to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and build stronger institutions.“These commitments remain firm. We must continue moving beyond 2030,” he said.Prabowo said the 2030 Agenda should not be viewed simply as a set of targets to be achieved within a specific timeframe. He said it should also help put developing countries in a stronger position in the global system.“This agenda aims to bring developing countries to where they rightly belong, to realize peace and prosperity for our people, and to give developing countries a greater role in shaping the global order,” he said.Prabowo said the voices of the Global South should be heard both in accelerating implementation of the 2030 Agenda and in determining the direction of the world after 2030.
