A 21-year-old man is the fourth person fatally shot in Morvant since Tuesday. He has been identified as Nathaniel Lewis, of Second Caledonia.Police said Lewis was at his home shortly after 5 a.m. when gunmen entered the premises and opened fire.Officers responded to reports of the shooting and found Lewis suffering from gunshot wounds.Although the paramedics were notified, Lewis died on the scene.Police found several spent shells.Police have no official motive for Lewis’ death, however, given this week’s incidents, it is believed to be gang-related. The killing followed three others in the Morvant area since Tuesday.Clarence Thompson: On Wednesday, police recovered the body of 57-year-old Clarence Thompson from a bushy area behind his home in Crichlow Trace, Chinapoo.Residents had reported hearing gunshots about 10 p.m. on Tuesday. The relatives, who lived nearby, became concerned and went to the house, where they found blood splattered across the living room, spent shells, and signs that the house had been ransacked. They then contacted police. However, the responding officers could not find Thompson because of the darkness.Members of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team later helped police to find Thompson’s body, about 12 hours after the reported gunfire. He had been shot several times.A relative told the Express on Wednesday that he could not speculate why Thompson was killed. “He was a cool, easy-going fella who didn’t go to any parties or anything,” the relative said.Steve Griffith: On Tuesday night, the body of 62-year-old Steve Griffith was found lying face down in a track off Second Caledonia after officers responded to a report of gunshots in the area.According to some residents, Griffith was known to associate closely with mostly younger men in the community, some of whom were reputed to be gang members. They speculated his associations may have contributed to his killing.Tylan Hinkson: Earlier that day, 22-year-old Tylan Hinkson, of Redwood Street, Morvant, had been shot dead.Police said that around 1.30 a.m., officers of the Morvant Police Station were contacted about the body of a man found in Second Caledonia Road, Morvant, near the former Juman’s Shopping Complex. When officers responded, they found Hinkson’s body.Police said he suffered gunshot wounds to his face, hands and legs. After the killings, some Morvant residents, in online posts, called on police to intervene, saying that they were “living in a war zone”.Meanwhile, head of the North Eastern Division Snr Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne said the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service was treating the situation seriously. She said police had increased their presence in affected areas after Thompson’s killing and were carrying out operations to prevent further violence. The murder toll for the year stands at 253.The comparative figure for the same period last year was 262.
