POLICE yesterday shot and killed a Morvant man who was wanted for questioning in connection with several murders in Morvant, Laventille and East Port of Spain, police said.Police said, following the shooting, officers searched the man's home and found an AR-15 rifle, ammunition, tactical equipment and a camouflage uniform.He was identified as Kebeedy 'Rhino' Perpignac of Clarence Circular, Never Dirty, Morvant.The Police Service in a release said between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. yesterday, a team of officers from the Morvant Criminal Investigations Department, led by Senior Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne and Supt Birch, went to Perpignac's home.Police said Perpignac was a person of interest in several recent homicides in the Morvant and Besson Street police station districts.He was also the subject of an outstanding Preventive Detention Order.According to police, when officers arrived at the property, Perpignac came outside and confronted them with a firearm.The officers ordered him to drop the weapon, but police said he refused and was about to open fire.The officers drew their weapons and opened fire, striking Perpignac about the body.He fell to the ground and was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.A search of the house uncovered an AR-15 rifle, 71 rounds of 5.56 ammunition and 16 rounds of 7.62 ammunition.Police also reported finding a blue swivel light, two blue strobe lights, two black bullet-proof vests, tactical gloves, handcuffs and a camouflage uniform.Director of the Police Complaints Authority David West confirmed to the Express that an investigation had been launched into the circumstances surrounding Perpignac's death.Perpignac is the 31st person to be killed during a confrontation with police this year, according to figures compiled by the Express.The deaths occurred during 26 separate incidents.
