On September 12, 2001, I remember meeting my friend Steve Hayes for a drink in Union Square. I was a cub reporter at the Wall Street Journal, and Hayes was a reporter for The Weekly Standard. The morning before, I had walked between the World Trade Center towers on my way to work. I’d been in the newsroom for about 15 minutes when the first plane crashed into the North Tower.
