The U.S. deported a Brazilian boy born in 2021 to Haiti on August 27, one of the most dangerous countries in the world.
The child traveled with his Haitian parents, who lost TPS (a humanitarian protection policy) after a Supreme Court ruling upheld the Trump administration’s termination of the measure.The information was confirmed by the International Organization for Migration and by Nathalye Cotrino of Human Rights Watch.
The family, which lived in New York, tried to move to Canada after losing TPS but was detained and sent back to the U.S.
Haiti is facing a social calamity: 80% to 90% of Port-au-Prince, the capital, is under the control of armed gangs, more than 1.4 million people have been displaced by violence, and food insecurity affects 5.8 million residents.
Even so, the Trump administration considers that this situation does not justify maintaining humanitarian protection, and deportation flights to the country, previously monthly, have become weekly.
