Romania on said Wednesday it will not send troops to Ukraine to fight against Russia amid rumors that the country plans to do so in light of the latest drone incursions.Bucharest’s Presidential Administration called the rumors “alarmist manipulation,” according to Romania’s state news agency AGERPRES.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official.“This is alarmist manipulation that deliberately distorts an administrative decision in order to fuel the unfounded theory that Romania is being drawn into the conflict,” the administration said in a statement.However, the administration also acknowledges the risks posed to Romania after multiple recent drone incursions, including one that flew at least 50 km (31 miles) into Romanian airspace unimpeded on Wednesday, without referring to the incident.“Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine affects all states in the Black Sea region, including Romania, which shares a direct border with Ukraine. We therefore find ourselves in a geopolitical zone of persistent insecurity due to Russian military actions,” the administration continued.The country – which hosts NATO’s largest airbase – also ruled out deploying troops to postwar Ukraine as part of the security guarantees being discussed under the UK- and French-led Coalition of the Willing framework, saying it plans to send up to 20 officers to join the operational command outside Ukraine.The envisioned operational command comprises 70 personnel headquartered in Paris, which is to rotate to London after the first 12 months, according to a UK House of Commons Library Research Briefing published in mid-August.
