Hunter Biden launched a meme coin, because of course he did. On September 9, 2026, the younger Biden debuted $LAPTOP on Coinbase’s Base blockchain, turning what was once a Republican political talking point into a tradable digital asset.
The token opened at roughly $3 and, within minutes, traded at prices ranging between $190 and over $300. Then came the inevitable gravity. Within the first hour, $LAPTOP had shed between 98% and 99% of its peak value, settling back into the single digits before the afternoon was out.
A billion tokens, a brief moment of madness
The total supply was set at 1 billion tokens, with 350 million, or 35%, unlocked at the token generation event. That structure, combined with thin liquidity, created the conditions for an almost textbook speculative blowup.
At peak prices, the fully diluted valuation briefly crossed into the $100 billion to $200 billion range, against liquidity pools that held as little as $48,000. Trading on Aerodrome, a decentralized exchange on Base, saw volumes between $5 million and $19 million in the first hour alone.
