Huawei unveils high-performance chip for first time in 6 years, flagship mobile phone performance up 42% from previous generation: report

Internal vertical interconnect channels are added, functioning like "elevators," resulting in shorter signal transmission paths, lower latency and better performance.According to Xinhua, this marks the first time in six years that Huawei has launched a brand-new Kirin chip at a flagship product since the global debut of Huawei Mate 40.Through a deep coordination of software, hardware, chips and cloud-computing, the Mate XT 2's overall performance is 42 percent higher than its predecessor, the company said. The transistor density of the Kirin 9050 Pro increased from about 155 million to 238 million transistors per square millimeter, or roughly 55 percent, compared with the previous generation. At comparable performance, NPU power consumption fell by 66 percent, GPU power consumption fell by 58 percent and CPU performance-core power consumption fell by 41 percent, according to the People's Daily.A new paper published on September 4 by Huawei's semiconductor segment chief, He Tingbo, on the company's Tau (τ) Scaling Law presented measurements from the Kirin 2026 chip, showing that transistor density increased while power consumption fell across several key computing units at comparable performance.
