Isuzu has issued a recall for recently built D-Max models.
If you bought an Isuzu D-Max between 11 May and 3 July this year, read this before you hitch the trailer.
The National Consumer Commission says 2,586 of those bakkies – single cab, double cab and extended cab – may have a loose brake pedal pin. Stamp on the brakes and the pedal can slide sideways. You think you have gone all the way down. You haven’t. The truck takes longer to stop.
The same vehicles were sold in Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, eSwatini, Uganda and Zambia. The repair is free. Waiting is not.
This is the kind of fault that does not look like a crisis until it is. Nobody writes songs about a pin. You only notice it when a child steps off the pavement, a taxi cuts in or the pedal feels wrong under your boot.
