The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has warned residents against patronising traders operating illegally on roads, medians, setbacks, walkways and other unauthorised public spaces, saying offenders risk arrest and prosecution.
The Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, gave the warning on Tuesday at the authority’s headquarters in Lagos, saying enforcement would commence next week.
He said the measure was part of a renewed enforcement strategy aimed at curbing illegal trading, indiscriminate waste disposal and obstruction of public infrastructure across Lagos State.
According to Gbadegesin, enforcement would no longer be limited to illegal traders, as residents who patronise such traders could also be held liable under Section 151(2) of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.
