ALBAWABA - An explosion rocked an ammunition depot on the Sarmada road in the countryside of Idlib province, northwestern Syria, local media confirmed.Syria's state news agency SANA reported that four people have been killed and 10 others were injured in the massive ammunition depot blast on Wednesday.For his part, Sobhi Assaf, Director of the Media Office at the Idlib Health Directorate, confirmed that the initial casualty toll from the explosion stands at four dead and ten people with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.Moreover, Assaf explained that rescue teams are continuing to search for missing persons under the rubble.Earlier, the official Syrian Al-Ikhbariya channel said, "According to an initial toll, eight people were injured following the explosion of an ammunition depot in the northern Idlib countryside."The news agency further added that internal security forces were closing roads leading to the blast site "to ensure the safety of civilians."It also noted that civil defense and firefighting teams rushed to the scene and are working to extinguish the blaze caused by the blast.Meanwhile, SANA said that the explosion occurred inside an arms depot in the Burj al-Nimra area, near the town of Sarmada in the northern Idlib countryside.Walid Aslan, head of operations for the Idlib Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate, told the agency: "Our teams headed to the site immediately after the explosion occurred."
