An explosion at a weapons depot near the northwestern city of Idlib killed at least 14 people and injured 11 others, Syria's Health Ministry said.

"The toll from the explosion in a temporary storage for collecting weapons and war remnants near the town of Sarmada ... registered 14 killed and 11 injured in a preliminary count," the Idlib health department said.

Security forces cordoned off roads leading to the Burj al-Nimra area on the road to Sarmada, some 45 kilometres from Idlib, as Civil Defence and Syrian Red Crescent first-responders continued to search for survivors trapped under the rubble.
