The North West Province Department of Education is scrambling to repair 60 schools damaged by strong winds. The department is concerned about matriculants.
The North West Department of Education has confirmed that 60 schools across the province sustained damage from strong winds that swept through the province on Saturday.
In KwaZulu-Natal, the department reported that three schools were affected by the adverse weather conditions. Dr Elias Malindi, head of communications for the department, said Grade 12 learners would be accommodated through interventions to ensure their preparation for the National Senior Certificate examinations is not compromised.
“The department recognises the critical stage of the academic year and will prioritise the continuity of learning for all grade 12 learners in affected schools,” Malindi said.
He said that where classrooms or mobile classrooms were destroyed and cannot be used, affected learners will be accommodated at nearby schools to ensure they continue attending classes. At the same time, necessary interventions are being implemented.
