Housing sales could see an added boost in Athens and Thessaloniki following the announcement of a third version of the government homebuying subsidy program, “My Home.”
The program, which will subsidize loan interest by 50%, will now have a total budget of €2 billion, officials say.
Housing market executives told Kathimerini that while the idea is a good one, the measure is again implemented in a way that feeds exclusively demand, without the supply stock being strengthened.
The result is that sales prices keep rising, targeting lower-end properties precisely because of this artificial increase in demand.
Based on what the government announced on Monday, in line with the measures the prime minister mentioned in his speech in Thessaloniki, “My Home 3” will target properties worth up to €300,000 (from the €250,000 “My Home 2” focused on) and a loan value of up to €230,000 (from €190,000).
