Amazon.com (AMZN) stock inched lower in after-hours trading on Tuesday after the company faced a new proposed nationwide class-action lawsuit. Four former warehouse employees accuse Amazon of discriminating against pregnant workers.
The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in federal court in Brooklyn, New York. It alleges that Amazon denied pregnant employees basic workplace accommodations. These included chairs and bathroom breaks. The complaint also alleges that workers were denied time off for prenatal care.
Former Workers Accuse Amazon of Pregnancy Discrimination
The four former workers say Amazon violated the federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and New York labor law. The complaint alleges that Amazon threatened workers who exceeded their allowed time off. It also claims the company required medical documents for some pregnancy-related accommodation requests.
One plaintiff, Willamina Barclay, says she was hospitalized after suffering a pregnancy-related emergency at an Amazon warehouse in Rochester, New York. The lawsuit says Amazon later warned her about termination and fired her five days later.
