After being held to a goalless draw by La Cure Waves in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round, Orlando Pirates have one clear mandate heading into the return leg at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday: score goals and don’t concede.
Pirates are fully capable of delivering. They boast one of the most lethal attacking units in the country, having scored 12 goals in the Betway Premiership and six in the MTN8, while conceding only twice across all competitions.
That outstanding run of form has kept them firmly in the title conversation – currently sitting second on the table with 13 points, just three behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Crucially, Pirates also have a game in hand and have already reached the MTN8 final, where they will square off against Sundowns on October 10.
Having missed out on the Champions League group stage last season following a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to St Eloi Lupopo, discerning Pirates supporters will hope the team has saved some goals for continental competition.
