Orlando Pirates will have to get proper back-up for their star goalkeeper Sipho Chaine if they are to cope with continental football.
Orlando Pirates are set to return to the CAF Champions League, eager to make up for lost time when they open their campaign against La Cure Sylvester in Mauritius this Sunday (1:30 pm kick-off).
Last season, Pirates stumbled at the final hurdle of the Champions League group stage qualifiers after losing on penalties to St Eloi Lupopo at home, following a 3-3 aggregate draw.
With that experience in mind, we examine the key areas Pirates must address this season.
Pirates underestimated Lupopo in the first leg away in Congo. At the time, then-coach Abdeslam Ouaddou started with a makeshift lineup featuring mostly new players, while an experienced contingent – including Bafana Bafana players – started on the bench.
