TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo explained that setting the trial fare for the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT at Rp8 per passenger was intended to carry forward the spirit of Indonesian Independence Day."Until the President officially inaugurates the line, we have decided to run the trial with a fare of Rp8 per passenger on this LRT service. Why Rp8? It is a continuation of the August 17 spirit," Pramono told reporters following the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) anniversary event at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, on Tuesday. However, Pramono stopped short of detailing an exact start date for the trial run along the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai corridor. He emphasized that his administration remain in close coordination with the State Palace concerning the official inauguration of the LRT line by President Prabowo Subianto."I don't want to announce anything until the actual inauguration day by the President," Pramono added, expressing hope that the LRT launch would serve as a major milestone for public transit in the capital. He expected that the line will eventually accommodate between 70,000 and 80,000 passengers daily, operating from 5:00 a.m. to midnight WIB."[The operating hours] match the commuter rail (KRL) schedule. That is what sets it apart from other transit modes in Jakarta. And I hope this will help ease urban traffic congestion," Pramono noted.Ahead of the trial phase and launch, Pramono noted that he directed the City Parks and Forestry Agency (Distamhut) to clean and green the space beneath the elevated LRT structure."We have already begun clearing the area underneath. I have even instructed Distamhut to start greening efforts. And I hope that can be completed soon," Pramono concluded.Read: Clean Air Day: Jakarta Needs Stronger Regulations to Tackle Air PollutionClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
