The Benue State Government has rejected claims by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, that he was blocked by thugs allegedly working for the state government from accessing Yelewata to console families of the 2025 attacks.

In a statement by Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, described the allegations as “unfounded” and a “desperate attempt” to drag the governor and the people of Benue into what may be an internal political matter within the NDC.

“We wish to emphatically deny that the government of Hyacinth Alia has an idea of what Mr. Obi is talking about,” Kula stated.

The government also cast doubt on whether Obi actually visited Makurdi on Tuesday, citing “his antecedents of making untrue statements against the state.”
