Tamil Nadu government will soon take initiatives to implement autorickshaw fare revision, Transport Minister A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban said in the Assembly on Tuesday.During the debate for demand for grants for his department, he said, the fare structure was fixed long ago and has not been revised. He was responding to a query by Kilvelur MLA T. Latha. With a spike in the fuel prices and rising cost of vehicle maintenance, autorickshaw drivers and owners had sought revision of fares. According to him, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay also wants meters to be installed in autorickshaws soon.He said, after the TVK-led government took charge, they held a tripartite meeting with autorickshaw drivers, owners, and consumer protection bodies in July. Subsequently, a committee was formed for both fare revision and placing of meters in autorickshaws on August 5, he said.On August 21, the committee had submitted its first set of recommendations to the government regarding both issues and based on that, the government will take measures to implement fare revision and installation of meters in autorickshaws, he added.
